Question: After reading your article on ETFs, I’m a little worried about mine! What is your view on: MGE, VEQ and HACK?
Answer (by Paul Rickard): I have no concerns about MGE (Magellan Global Equities) or VEQ (Vanguard’s FTSE Europe Shares ETF).
I have a couple of weak concerns about HACK, simply because it is a small ETF (circa $26m in Australia) and it tracks a pretty volatile index (Nasdaq Consumer Technology Association Cybersecurity Index). For that reason, I would only invest on a moderate basis in HACK.
Question: With the arrival of Amazon, I would expect shipping companies to be a major beneficiary. I owned Toll before the takeover but it is no longer Australian-owned. Are there any ASX listed companies that could benefit? Are there any other areas may benefit from the arrival of Amazon?
Answer (by Paul Rickard): Very hard to nominate direct beneficiaries. Obviously, Amazon will purchase some services and supplies locally – so some ASX-listed companies will benefit.
There are no shipping/logistics companies that come to mind (outside Toll and Australia Post).
In previous reviews, we have suggested that some of the listed property funds that own warehouse facilities could possibly benefit, such as Centuria Industrial Fund (CIP), formerly the 360 Capital Industrial Fund.
