Can an SMSF trade CDFs?

Hi,

Can a Self Managed Superfund trade cfds?

A: Thanks for the question.

The short answer is yes.

It is strongly recommended that the Trustees formally record their consent to do so, by explicitly making reference to CFDs or other derivatives in the Fund’s Investment Strategy.

It goes without saying that the Trustees understand the potential risks of investing or transacting in CFDs, and that transactions must be  consistent with the sole purpose test – that is, maintaining the fund to provide retirement benefits to your members.
