A: There is no easy way. Each method has different costs and degrees of effectiveness.

If you are really worried about a crash with material medium term consequences:

a) sell your shares; or

b) buy put options on the shares; or

c) buy futures contracts over the index;

d) use some other derivative like contracts for difference; or

e) move out of higher risk shares into lower risk shares.
