Seven West chief executive and former Woodside boss Don Voelte has joined the board of oil and gas explorer Nexus Energy.

The appointment of Mr Voelte as non-executive chairman is part of a board restructure at Nexus, which owns prospective projects in the Gippsland Basin off the coast of Victoria and the Browse Basin off the coast of Western Australia.

Four Nexus directors have stood down as the company focuses on new strategies to realise the value of its assets.

Candidates for other board roles are being reviewed, Nexus said in a statement on Wednesday.

Mr Voelte, appointed chief executive of Seven West in June, was Chief executive and managing director of Woodside Petroleum from 2004 to 2011.
