Tokyo stocks close up 1.28%

Tokyo stocks rose 1.28 per cent Monday on late bargain-hunting following a weaker yen and a big jump in the Bank of Japan’s quarterly business confidence survey.

The benchmark Nikkei 225 index closed up 175.18 points to 13,852.50, while the broader Topix index of all first-section shares gained 1.49 per cent, or 16.86 points, to 1,150.70.
