Super Retail Group has finalised its $610 million purchase of sports good retailer Rebel Group and appointed a former Rebel manager to drive growth in the business.

Super Retail, which owns retail chains Supercheap Auto, BCF and Ray’s Outdoors, said the Rebel deal was finalised on Monday.

“We are pleased to have now completed the acquisition of the Rebel Group,” Super Retail chief executive Peter Birtles said in a statement.

“The acquisition represents a fantastic opportunity for the group to leverage its retail and supply expertise and to build Rebel’s position as the national leader in sporting goods retailing.”

Erica Berchtold has been appointed managing director of sports retailing, with direct responsibility for driving growth in the Rebel business and integrating it into the Super Retail Group, Mr Birtles said.

Ms Berchtold has over 15 years of experience in the retail industry, and was general manager of merchandise with Rebel between 2003 and 2007.

She is currently a manager at Specialty Fashion Group, and will join Super Retail on November 7.
