Stocks to watch on the Australian stock exchange on Wednesday, June 25:

BHP – BHP BILLITON – up one cent, or 0.03 per cent, at $36.46

The world’s largest miner, BHP Billiton, has cut 500 Australian jobs out of its iron ore business.

CTY – COUNTRY ROAD – up $2.40, or 17.1 per cent, at $16.40

DJS – DAVID JONES – up 15 cents, or four per cent, at $3.94

South African retailer Woolworths is making a $213 million takeover bid for Australian clothing chain Country Road, in an effort to get its David Jones takeover approved by the department store’s shareholders.

FXJ – FAIRFAX MEDIA – up 0.5 cents, or 0.53 per cent, at 94.5 cents

TEN – TEN NETWORK HOLDINGS – up 1.5 cents, or 6.0 per cent, at 26.5 cents

Australia’s largest online dating site RSVP is merging with smaller rival Oasis Active in a deal involving media companies Ten Network and Fairfax Media.

KMD – KATHMANDU HOLDINGS – down 40 cents, or 12 per cent, at $2.92

Outdoor clothing retailer Kathmandu is the latest in the industry to warn of a winter sales slump.

NWS – NEWS CORPORATION – down 36 cents, or two per cent, at $17.81

NWSLV – NEWS CORPORATION NON-VOTING STOCK – down 31 cents, or 1.7 per cent, at $18.33
