Stocks to watch on the Australian stock exchange on Tuesday, July 1:

CTY – COUNTRY ROAD – steady at $16.80

DJS – DAVID JONES – steady at $3.94

South Africa’s Woolworths has stepped up pressure on businessman Solomon Lew, vowing not to improve its $200 million-plus offer to buy out his Country Road stake.

DSH – DICK SMITH – up three cents, or 1.55 per cent, at $1.96

Electronics retailer Dick Smith has beaten its full year sales forecast, with a 15 per cent jump in sales in the final three months of the financial year.

FXJ – FAIRFAX MEDIA – down two cents, or 2.2 per cent, at 90.5 cents

Fairfax Media’s credit rating outlook has been boosted following a difficult couple of years of cost reductions and job cuts.

GFF – GOODMAN FIELDER – in a trading halt, last traded at 68 cents

Shares in Goodman Fielder have been halted from trade as investors wait to see whether a $1.4 billion takeover goes ahead.

HGG – HENDERSON GLOBAL INVESTORS – up six cents, or 1.4 per cent, at $4.30

Henderson Global Investors has entered into an agreement to acquire the entire issued share capital of Geneva Capital Management.

SGP – STOCKLAND – down six cents, or 1.5 per cent, at $3.88

Property developer Stockland has acquired a major West Australian dairy processor’s head office for $53.5 million.
