Stocks to watch on the Australian stock exchange on Thursday:

TLS – Telstra – down six cents, or 1.06 per cent, to $5.62

JBH – JB Hi-FI – down four cents, or 0.23, to $17.05

Telstra and JB Hi-Fi will soon have new Apple products to sell customers after the tech giant unveiled its first smartwatch and two large-screen iPhones.

VET – Vocation – in a trading halt, last traded at $3.31

The education and training company wants to raise $74 million by issuing 24.3 million shares priced at $3.05 each to help fund acquisitions.

WSA – Western Areas – down 19 cents, or 3.6 per cent, at $5.09

MBN – Mirabela Nickel – down 1.2 cents, or 13.3 per cent, at 7.8 cents.

BTR – Blackthorn Resources – steady at 28.5 cents

Nickel prices dropped from a nine-week high overnight while copper suffered its biggest fall in nearly six months amid reports that a potential ore-exports ban by the Philippines could be years away.

MAH – Macmahon Holdings – up 0.5 cents, or 4.55 per cent, at 11.5 cents

The mining services company has raised $317.5 million to help drive its future growth and refinance its term debt and bank guarantees.

FXJ – Fairfax – up half a cent, or 0.6 per cent, at 84 cents

Billionaire Gina Rinehart and former Murdoch Magazines boss Matt Handbury held talks about buying Fairfax Media two years ago, The Australian reports.

NEN – Neon Energy – down 3.5 cents, or 0.1 per cent, at 3.5 cents

Evoworld Corporation has flagged it intends to buy the remaining 30 per cent of the Australian petroleum explorer and producer it does not already own. Neon is recommending shareholders take no action.
