Stocks to watch on the Australian stock exchange on Wednesday, October 3:

ANZ – ANZ BANKING GROUP – up 20 cents at $24.99

CBA – COMMONWEALTH BANK – up 19 cents at $56.04

NAB – NATIONAL AUSTRALIA BANK – up 27 cents at $25.81

WBC – WESTPAC BANKING CORP – up 22 cents at $25.16

Borrowers are waiting to see if the larger banks will pass on the Reserve Bank of Australia’s quarter of a percentage point interest cut, announced on Tuesday.

CTP – CENTRAL PETROLEUM LTD – up three cents, or 22.22 per cent, at 16.5 cents

STO – SANTOS LTD – up 27 cents, or 2.4 per cent, at $11.55

Central Petroleum has formed a $150 million joint venture with oil and gas producer Santos, with the two companies to explore and potentially develop up to 13 areas in the Amadeus and Pedirka Basins in central Australia.

FMG – FORTESCUE METALS GROUP LTD – up five cents, 1.43 per cent, at $3.55

The High Court has ruled mining billionaire Andrew Forrest and his iron ore company Fortescue Metals Group did not mislead investors about the nature of agreements with three Chinese entities in 2004.

MRN – MACQUARIE RADIO NETWORK LTD – down four cents, or 6.25 per cent, at 60 cents

The list of sponsors pulling out of broadcaster Alan Jones’s radio program following his comments about the prime minister’s father is growing, with Honda Australia and Hyundai withdrawing their advertisements on Tuesday.
