Stocks to watch on the Australian stock exchange on Thursday October 11

AWC – ALUMINA LTD – up two cents at 89.5 cents

Alumina received no dividends from its joint venture partner Alcoa in the three months to September after the US company posted a third quarter loss of $US143 million ($A140.96 million).

BEN – BENDIGO AND ADELAIDE BANK LTD – down six cents at $7.90

Some of the public anger directed at Australian banks is justified and the only way to counter this is to treat customers well, Bendigo and Adelaide Bank says.

BPT – BEACH ENERGY LTD – down two cents at $1.30

Oil and gas producer Beach Energy says it has made another oil discovery which could bring in 440,000 barrels of recoverable oil.

EGP – ECHO ENTERTAINMENT GROUP LTD – down four cents at $3.96

Casinos operator Echo Entertainment Group says it is willing to consider new development opportunities under its existing casino licences.

FMG – FORTESCUE METALS GROUP LTD – down 11 cents at $3.84

Fortescue Metals believes iron ore prices will firm in the short term and the company will emerge stronger despite shedding 1000 jobs and shelving its expansion plans.

TCL – TRANSURBAN GROUP – down nine cents at $6.10

Transurban’s share of revenue from its portfolio of toll roads rose 2.5 per cent in the September quarter, driven partly by an increase in tolls on some roads.

TOE – TORO ENERGY LTD – up 0.3 cents at 8.3 cents

Western Australia’s first uranium mine is two steps away from being a reality after final state environmental approval was granted to Toro Energy’s Wiluna project in the Mid West region.
