BHP – BHP BILLITON LTD – down 68 cents at $31.52

BHP Billiton has committed $US845 million ($A832.47 million) to opening a new mine at its Illawarra Coal business in NSW.

DOW – DOWNER EDI – down eight cents at $3.12

FMG – FORTESCUE METALS GROUP LTD – up 12 cents at $4.91

Engineering firm Downer EDI has won a $73 million contract to build locomotives for iron ore miner Fortescue Metals Group.
