Stocks to watch on the Australian stock exchange at noon on Tuesday:

BLY – BOART LONGYEAR – up 3.00 cents, or 6.82 per cent, at 47 cents

Drilling company Boart Longyear has appointed Rio Tinto executive Jeffrey Olsen as its new finance chief.

CPA – COMMONWEALTH PROPERTY FUND – down 0.5 cents, or 0.4 per cent, at $1.24

DXS – DEXUS PROPERTY GROUP – up 3.00 cents, or 3.00 per cent, at $1.03

Office, industrial and retail property investor Dexus Property Group has added an alternative to its joint takeover offer for the Commonwealth Property Office Fund (CPA).

NZO – NEW ZEALAND OIL & GAS – steady at 72 cents

WPL – WOODSIDE PETROLEUM – down 4.00 cents, or 0.11 per cent, at $37.66

Shell New Zealand and its joint venture partners are to drill an exploration well in the Great South Basin, off the South Island’s southeast coast, in a move the energy industry hopes will create “the next Taranaki”.

WCB – WARRNAMBOOL CHEESE AND BUTTER FACTORY – down 3.00 cents, or 0.32 per cent, at $9.20

BGA – BEGA CHEESE LTD – up 7.00 cents, or 1.58 per cent, at $4.50

Takeover target Warrnambool Cheese and Butter Factory (WCB) says suitor Murray Goulburn is unlikely to overcome regulatory hurdles that stand in the way of success for its bid.
