Stocks to watch on the Australian stock exchange at close on Friday:

AWC – ALCOA – down 2.5 cents, or 2.19 per cent, at $1.115

The news that Alcoa will not ask for any more government help at its troubled Point Henry aluminium smelter has been viewed as sealing the fate of 500 workers.

FOX – TWENTY-FIRST CENTURY Fox – down $1.77, or 4.65 per cent, at $36.31

FOXLV – TWENTY-FIRST CENTURY Fox NON-VOTING STOCK – down $1.25, or 3.23 per cent, at $37.39

NWS – NEWS CORPORATION – down 5.00 cents, or 0.26 per cent, at $19.46

Twenty-First Century Fox shares are down five per cent after the company announced plans to remove its listing from the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX).

TLS – TELSTRA – steady at $5.26

Telstra has been hit with a $510,000 fine for failing to connect new landline customers on time.

WCB – WARRNAMBOOL CHEESE AND BUTTER FACTORY COMPANY – up 6.00 cents, or 0.66 per cent, at $9.21

Canadian dairy giant Saputo has extended its takeover offer for Warrnambool Cheese and Butter and lifted its stake in the target to more than 21 per cent.
