Stocks to watch on the Australian stock exchange on Monday Sept 12:

MTS – METCASH LTD – down three cents at $4.19

The competition watchdog says it will closely monitor any attempt by Coles or Woolworths to buy Franklins stores and block any sales that lessen competition.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) announced on Friday it will appeal a Federal Court judgment paving the way for grocery wholesaler Metcash to buy the Franklins supermarket business.

PLA – PLATINUM AUSTRALIA LTD – UP 1.5 centS TO $6.67

Platinum Australia Ltd to release its full year results.

ACL – ALCHEMIA LTD – up 5.5 cents, or 14.9 per cent, at 42.5 cents

Biotechnology firm Alchemia has started to recruit patients for a phase II trial of its drug to treat small cell lung cancer.

AGO – ATLAS IRON LTD – down one cent at $3.69

Expanding iron ore miner Atlas Iron says it will issue more than 22 million additional securities.

FXJ – FAIRFAX MEDIA LTD – steady at 83.5 cents

The board of a partially-floated Trade Me Ltd may look outside New Zealand to boost growth, according to the boss of owner Fairfax Media Ltd.
