Sonic Healthcare says it will buy Healthscope’s pathology businesses in three Australian states and the nation’s capital for $100 million.

The pathology businesses were in NSW/Australian Capital Territory, Queensland and Western Australia, and had a combined annualised revenue of about $105 million, Sonic said in a statement on Wednesday.

Sonic said the purchase would be funded through existing debt facilities and required Australian Competition and Consumer Commission approval.

The transaction was expected to be completed by August, Sonic said, with synergies expected to be fully realised six months after that.

“The acquisition of these businesses will be value accretive for Sonic’s shareholders,” Sonic chief executive Colin Goldschmidt said.
