Retail sales rise in August

Retail spending rose 0.6 per cent in August, according to official figures.

Retail trade rose in the month to a seasonally adjusted $20.813 billion, compared to an upwardly revised $20.679 billion in July, the Australian Bureau of Statistics said on Wednesday.

Economists’ forecasts had centred on a 0.2 per cent rise in retail sales in August.
