Rail operator QR National has signed a deal with Wesfarmers to haul up to 1.5 million tonnes of coal each year from its Curragh mine in Queensland to port.

QR National said on Monday the long-term contract with Wesfarmers Curragh involved the haulage of coal from the mine to the new Wiggins Island coal export terminal.

In conjunction with other agreements already signed with Wesfarmers Curragh, QR National will from 2014 be contracted to haul up to 10 million tonnes of coal per annum from the Curragh mine to ports near Gladstone, it said.
