Optus Satellite business under review

Optus’ parent company is considering selling the Australian telco’s satellite business.

Optus Satellite has five satellites providing services for broadcasters including the ABC, SBS, Foxtel, Southern Cross and WIN, plus several government departments.

Singapore Telecommunications, the owner of Optus, said on Monday it was conducting a strategic review of the Optus Satellite business.

“SingTel will make an appropriate announcements in the event of any material development arising from the review,” it said in a statement.

The business generated revenue of $319 million in the year to March 31, 2012.

SingTel shares were down 2.5 cents to $2.755 at 1117 AEDT.
