The share market is slightly lower at noon after a choppy morning during which resources fell, but the banks recovered.

The miners are lower, with Rio Tinto shedding 63 cents to $50.58 and BHP Billiton down 17 cents at $25.33.

Wesfarmers also weighed on the indexes, falling 38 cents to $41.22, while Macquarie Bank was among the worst performers, slicing $2.58 off its share price after a strong Thursday.

The banks rallied from early trading losses to nudge marginally in front.

KEY FACTS

* At 1200 AEST, the benchmark S&P/ASX200 index was down 11.3 points, or 0.2 per cent, at 5,579 points.

* The broader All Ordinaries index was down 12.5 points, or 0.22 per cent, at 5,568.8 points.

* The September share price index futures contract was eight points lower at 5523 points, with 11,859 contracts traded.

* National turnover was 763.1 million securities worth $1.8 billion.
