Market lower at noon

The share market is slightly lower following a flat morning session weighed down by falling commodity prices.

However, mining giant BHP Billiton has recovered from early losses to be six cents higher at $25.33 by 1200 AEST but rival Rio Tinto is still down 19 cents at $51.02.

Key stocks across the board including Telstra, Woolworths and Wesfarmers are also in the red, and the big four banks lower except for Westpac.

KEY FACTS

* At 1205 AEST, the benchmark S&P/ASX200 index was down 8.5 points, or 0.15 per cent, at 5,557.6 points.

* The broader All Ordinaries index was down 8.4 points, or 0.15 per cent, at 5,5488.4 points.

* At 1225, the September share price index futures contract was 19 points lower at 5497 points, with 11,186 contracts traded.

* At 1223 AEST national turnover was 934.8 million securities worth $1.523 billion.
