Leighton Holdings’ Offshore division has been awarded a $US518 million ($A509.7 million) contract by Iraq’s South Oil Company (SOC).

The project involves the development of two offshore platforms, a 75-kilometre oil pipeline and a single-point mooring system.

In addition, a separate contract for $US79.85 million covers the mooring system project.

The total contract is a part of the Crude Oil Export Facility Reconstruction Project, which is financed and supported through a loan from the Japan International Cooperation Agency.

Leighton chief executive Hamish Tyrwhitt said the contract demonstrated the wealth of expertise and highlighted Leighton’s broader strategy to become a major player in the offshore construction industry.

“Leighton Offshore has demonstrated its ability to deliver complex projects in difficult and remote locations and we are extremely proud to be a part of the rebuilding of Iraq’s oil export infrastructure which is critical to Iraqs economy,” Mr Tyrwhitt said.

The new contract is in addition to the $799 million Phase 1 Iraq Crude Oil Export Expansion Project (ICOEEP) scope already underway.

The ICOEEP is aimed at expanding offshore loading facilities to enable export capability of 4.5 million barrels of oil per day.
