Job vacancies fell in August

The number of jobs on offer to people looking for work has fallen, new figures show.

There were 145,800 job vacancies in August, seasonally adjusted, down from 146,900 in May, the Australian Bureau of Statistics said on Thursday.

The quarterly figures show the number of private sector job vacancies fell to 133,400 in August, from 134,800 in May.

But the number of public sector vacancies rose to 12,400, from 12,100.
