Insurance Australia Group (IAG) will raise $350 million through the issue of new hybrid shares.

The insurer on Monday said it would issue convertible preference shares, which will convert to ordinary shares on May 1, 2019.

The new shares will be issued to institutional shareholders at $100 each, which could raise about $350 million, IAG said.

The funds would be used for general corporate purposes, IAG said.
