Engineering firm Downer EDI has won a $70 million contract to perform structural, mechanical, piping and electrical work at the Technical Ammonium Nitrate Plant project on the Burrup Peninsula in Western Australia.

Downer on Wednesday said it would start the work immediately after being awarded the contract by Spanish contractor Tecnicas Reunidas SA.

The project is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2015.

Downer shares were six cents higher at $5.02 at 1006 AEDT.
