Engineering firm Downer EDI and consortium partner GE Australia have won a contract to build stage one of the $350 million Boco Rock Wind Farm in NSW Snowy Mountains.

When all stages are completed, the wind farm will consist of more than 100 turbines on a site 10 kilometres southwest of Nimmitabel.

The Downer GE Consortium will deliver the full engineering, procurement and construction for stage one of the project. GE will supply and commission 67 wind turbine generators.

Downer chief executive Grant Fenn said the consortium looked forward to using its capabilities and expertise in the renewable energy sector.

“Other key wind farms that Downer has delivered successfully include the Collgar Wind Farm in Western Australia, Lake Bonney Wind Farm in South Australia, Waubra Wind Farm in Victoria and the Mt Mercer Wind Farm, also in Victoria, which is currently under construction,” he said.

Boco Rock Wind Farm construction will start the third quarter of 2013 and power delivery should begin from the fourth quarter of 2014.

At 1015 AEST, Downer EDI shares were flat at $3.50.
