Australian shares edge higher

The Australian share market has opened higher, with gains by bank, retail and health stocks offsetting further losses by the miners.

At 1015 AEDT on Thursday, the benchmark S&P/ASX200 index was up 4.2 points, or 0.08 per cent, at 5,096.6, while the broader All Ordinaries index was up 3.3 points, or 0.06 per cent, at 5,107.7.

On the ASX 24, the March share price index futures contract was down seven points at 5,029, with 10,183 contracts traded.
