Australian shares close higher

The Australian share market has closed slightly higher as the United States builds its case for a military response to the Syrian situation.

At the close on Tuesday, the benchmark S&P/ASX200 index was 5.8 points, or 0.11 per cent, higher at 5,141.2, while the broader All Ordinaries index was up 3.7 points, or 0.07 per cent, at 5,130.8.

On the ASX 24, the September share price index futures contract was eight points lower at 5,118, with 16,574 contracts traded.
