The Australian share market has closed slightly lower, starting and ending the session with falls into the red.

At the close on Monday, the benchmark S&P/ASX200 index was 6.1 points, or 0.11 per cent, lower at 5,577.4, while the broader All Ordinaries index was down 4.3 points, or 0.08 per cent, at 5,569.9, according to preliminary figures.

On the ASX 24, the September share price index futures contract was one point down at 5,529, with 18,734 contracts traded.
