The Australian share market has closed lower, with Asian markets also subdued ahead of the US company reporting season.

At the close on Monday, the benchmark S&P/ASX200 index was 6.1 points, or 0.11 per cent, lower at 5,518.9, while the broader All Ordinaries index was down 5.5 points, or 0.1 per cent, at 5,506.3.

On the ASX 24, the September share price index futures contract was eight points lower at 5,474, with 12,281 contracts traded.
