The Australian share market has closed lower, with the banks, miners and consumer staples all suffering losses.

At the close on Friday, the benchmark S&P/ASX200 index was 19.2 points, or 0.35 per cent, lower at 5,445.1, while the broader All Ordinaries index was down 17.7 points, or 0.33 per cent, at 5,429.1.

On the ASX 24, the September share price index futures contract was 10 points lower at 5,416, with 26,948 contracts traded.
