Aust shares close higher

A fall in the unemployment rate has driven the share market to its strongest session in almost a month.

At the close on Thursday, the benchmark S&P/ASX200 index was up 57 points, or 0.98 per cent, at 5,850.2, while the broader All Ordinaries index was up 52.7 points, or 0.91 per cent, at 5,816, according to preliminary figures.

On the ASX 24, the March share price index futures contract was 62 points higher at 5,847, with 33,915 contracts traded.
