Aussie shares close lower

The Australian share market has closed lower, slipping through the session, with substantial falls in the materials and energy sectors.

At the close on Tuesday, the benchmark S&P/ASX200 index was 12.8 points, or 0.24 per cent, lower at 5,399.7, while the broader All Ordinaries index was down 13.5 points, or 0.25 per cent, at 5,383.1, according to preliminary figures.

On the ASX 24, the December share price index futures contract was 15 points lower at 5,411, with 23,313 contracts traded.
