The Australian share market has closed lower, reversing across all sectors despite strong national building figures.

At the close on Thursday, the benchmark S&P/ASX200 index was 36.4 points, or 0.68 per cent, lower at 5,297.7, while the broader All Ordinaries index was down 36.0 points, or 0.67 per cent, at 5,298.5, according to preliminary figures.

On the ASX 24, the December share price index futures contract was 40 points lower at 5,282, with 27,468 contracts traded.
