Aussie shares close higher

The Australian share market has closed at a six-year-plus high after the central bank pushed the official interest rate to a fresh low.

At the close on Tuesday, the benchmark S&P/ASX200 index was 82.1 points, or 1.46 per cent, higher at 5,707.4, while the broader All Ordinaries index was up 79.7 points, or 1.43 per cent, at 5,666.2, according to preliminary figures.

On the ASX 24, the March share price index futures contract was 76 points higher at 5,647, with 34,270 contracts traded.
