In regard to Andrew Mains’ article titled ‘Could Labor’s plan push us onto the pension’ (27/3/18), he states that a SMSF with one member in pension mode as of Wednesday 27/3/18 will still receive his franking credit back as a cash refund.
Is this correct?

With the ongoing discussions on franking credits and now Labor trying to get their hands on them could you please explain why companies have to pay Dividends in taxed dollars?
Why can’t they pay dividends in pre-tax dollars (dividend + 30%) the gross amount and allow the shareholder to handle the tax implications?

In last weekend’s Financial Review, there is a list of the Shorten tax proposals.
The “sleeper” is the last one. Remove ability for everyone to make personal tax deductible contributions (to super). This effectively “locks out’ all small business owners who are not running a company, affecting hundreds of thousands of people
