Aussie shares close lower

The Australian share market has closed lower despite indications of a pick-up in Chinese manufacturing and a record profit by Westpac Bank.

At the close on Monday, the benchmark S&P/ASX200 index was 19.7 points, or 0.36 per cent, lower at 5,506.9, while the broader All Ordinaries index was down 20.0 points, or 0.36 per cent, at 5,485.0, according to preliminary figures.

On the ASX 24, the December share price index futures contract was 29 points lower at 5,489, with 24,888 contracts traded.
