The Australian share market has closed slightly higher, finishing in the green in eight out of the past nine sessions.

At the close on Thursday, the benchmark S&P/ASX200 index was 4.3 points, or 0.08 per cent, higher at 5,638.9, while the broader All Ordinaries index was up 4.8 points, or 0.09 per cent, at 5,634.0, according to preliminary figures.

On the ASX 24, the September share price index futures contract was flat at 5,606, with 29,015 contracts traded.
