What do you think of the LIC GVF – Global Value Fund for international shares?
I have just returned from overseas holiday and while we were away we received a letter from Geoff Wilson advocating we invest in the IPO. We missed that, and when I checked the shares had dropped a little, but if the US dollar goes up as Peter Switzer keeps suggesting, this LIC should do well.
I am out of touch and need your advice before investing. Can you help?
A: Like most of these new LICs, they are just a cashbox. Lots of promise – the proof will be in the eating.
I would rather see a track record before I invest. Pass.
If you are looking at investing overseas through a LIC, consider:
Hunter Hall Global Value Limited (HHV)
Magellan flagship Fund (MFF)
Platinum Capital Limited (PMC)
Templeton Global Growth (TGG)
If pressed to choose, I would look at PMC or TGG (probably split across both).
If just after a US fund only, you might want to consider an ETF like ishares IVV which tracks the US S&P 500
