Stocks to watch on the Australian stock exchange on Tuesday, October 23:

ANN – ANSELL LTD – down 34 cents at $15.82

Gloves and condom maker Ansell is confident of overcoming a sales slowdown and meeting its forecast for earnings growth this financial year.

GNC – GRAINCORP LTD – up $3.45, or 39 per cent, at $12.30

GrainCorp shares soared by more than 40 per cent after US-based food processing giant Archer Daniels Midland Company (ADM) proposed a $2.68 billion takeover of the Australian grains marketer.

RIO – RIO TINTO LTD – down $1.40 at $57.75

Rio Tinto says it has attracted strong interest from Asian and European buyers at its annual pink diamond sale.

SDL – SUNDANCES RESOURCES LTD – up one cent at 35 cents

China’s Hanlong Mining has locked in deals securing loans to help it finance its $1.37 billion takeover offer for Australian iron ore company Sundance Resources.

SUL – SUPER RETAIL GROUP LTD – up 34 cents at $8.98

Super Retail Group has made a solid start to 2012/13, with sales across its automotive, sports and leisure businesses up in tough trading conditions.

TWE – TREASURY WINE ESTATES LTD – down 40 cents at $5.10

Winemaker Treasury Wine Estates (TWE) says price increases, the release of more luxury wines and more promotional activities will help lift earnings in the second half of the financial year.

WTF – WOTIF – up six cents at $4.21

Online travel company Wotif expects a flat first half profit, as Australians flock to traditional travel agencies because of their reluctance to book overseas holidays on the internet.
