US stocks sustain rally after Fed decision

US stocks have opened higher, adding to the fresh records struck after the Federal Reserve’s shock decision to not cut back its stimulus program.

Wall Street’s rise at the opening bell kept up a global rally on the Fed move, which sent most major Asian and European markets up more than 1 per cent.

Five minutes into trade on Thursday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 16.87 (0.11 per cent) at 15,693.81.

The broad-based S&P 500 rose 4.23 (0.25 per cent) to 1,729.75, while the tech-rich Nasdaq Composite climbed 13.84 (0.37 per cent) to 3,797.48.
