ANZ has appointed Alistair Currie as its new chief operating officer following the departure of David Cartwright.
Mr Cartwright, who has been responsible for global services and operations, will leave ANZ to “pursue the next stage of his career”, ANZ said in a statement.
Mr Currie, who was previously the managing director of transaction banking in the Institutional area, joined ANZ in 2008.
He has previously held the position of president and chief executive officer of HSBC Taiwan, as well as senior roles throughout Asia.
ANZ chief executive officer Mike Smith said Mr Currie would be responsible for accelerating delivery of ANZ’s super regional strategy through an “integrated approach to the group’s business transformation agenda” in technology, shared services and operations.
“We have established a clear technology strategy for the group and we have a significant competitive advantage in our technology and operations hubs,” Mr Smith said in a statement.
Mr Currie’s appointment is effective from October 15, subject to completing the necessary regulatory approvals.
