Commonwealth Bank executive McEwan resigns

The Commonwealth Bank’s retail banking services group executive Ross McEwan has resigned to take up a senior role with the Royal Bank of Scotland.

Mr McEwan will leave later this year to take up the role of chief executive officer, UK retail, with the Royal Bank of Scotland Group, based in London.

He joined the Commonwealth Bank Group in 2003 and occupied senior executive positions with the group’s New Zealand subsidiary ASB before moving to Australia to take up his current role in May 2007.

“For the last five years, he has been a highly valued member of the group’s executive committee,” Commonwealth Bank of Australia chief executive officer Ian Narev said.

“During that time, his leadership of retail banking services has led to all-time highs in customer satisfaction, a strong performance for shareholders and a high level of people engagement.”

Mr Narev said the bank would undertake a global search to find Mr McEwan’s replacement.
