Rail operator Aurizon will develop and provide infrastructure to two Pilbara iron ore projects under a deal with Brockman Mining.
Brockman on Wednesday said it had appointed Aurizon to supply infrastructure to its Marillana and Ophthalmia projects, without giving a dollar value for the agreement.
Under the deal, Aurizon will operate all rail, rolling stock and related infrastructure required by the mine projects and develop port facilities.
Brockman said the deal may lead to the development of a new heavy haul railway by Aurizon, to be called the East Pilbara Independent Railway.
Alternatively, the deal allows for a new railway developed by a third party, or the use of an existing railway, such as Fortescue Metal’s rail infrastructure.
