Dear %%first_name%%,

By the time you receive this, you’ll probably hear or watch snippets of detail coming out of the Hayne Royal Commission Report, released today after 4pm EST. If you’ve held off investing before these revelations, you could’ve missed a very big leg up for the local index, if the RC recommendations and the political responses are measured. But this is a hell of a gamble! But if the RC and the political party responses, as well as the Fed’s rates narrative, along with the trade deal, all work out to the positive, then with other scary factors at a minimum, 2019 will be a good year for stocks. You can read my reasons for this in my article.

In his first review for the year, in today’s Report Paul Rickard looks at how our model income and growth portfolios performed in January. Despite being marginally overweight the major banks, our portfolios delivered solid gains to largely match the performance of the benchmark index.

Ahead of reporting season, I’ve asked James Dunn to put together the honour and dishonour role of companies confessing early. It’s not all bad news so is this an opportunity to buy? And Julia Lee shares 4 stocks that are on her favourites list, for various reasons.

In Buy, Sell, Hold, – What the brokers say, the week ending Friday 1 February 2019, saw the 8 stockbrokerages that FN Arena monitors daily, issue 10 upgrades for individual ASX-listed stocks. Rudi has compiled a list of recent upgrades and downgrades.

And our Hot Stock today that Michael McCarthy from CMC Markets likes is EMECO Holdings (EHL).

Finally, thank you to those who joined our webinar last Friday with Charlie and myself. If you couldn’t make it to the webinar or would like to hear parts of it again, you can listen on https://switzersuperreport.com.au/video/stocks-to-benefit-from-a-trump-trade-deal/

I was at the Phil Collins concert on Saturday night at Melbourne’s AAMI arena and for some reason these words are stuck in my head today: “I can feel it coming in the air tonight…” I think I’m anxiously waiting to report back to you on the Royal Commission findings! Watch this space!

Enjoy the read!

Sincerely,

Peter Switzer
