Dear %%first_name%%,
I was recently asked to give some investment ideas for foreign stocks and the person in question wanted the suggestions straight away! If like my friend you’re thinking of diversifying, in my article today I give you the two tests that drive my investment selection. And if you’re intent on constructing an overseas portfolio now, because the timing is tricky, I’d think about using top overseas fund managers.
Paul Rickard received an email this week from a subscriber that said: “About 50% of my portfolio is in the major banks and my financial planner has advised me to sell all my bank shares. What do you think?” In his article, Paul responds to our subscriber (certainly about the quantum of a possible sale!) and gives his reasoning about whether to sell or hold bank shares now.
Today James Dunn says that yield-oriented investors should be thinking carefully about their portfolios, and whether companies paying franked dividends will be as attractive if the investors no longer qualify for a refund of unused franking credits. James gives us 5 unfranked high yield stocks to consider.
Also in the Report, anecdotes from friends got Tony Featherstone thinking about the potential of self-storage property and how this asset class sits at the intersection of some powerful trends. Tony considers whether it’s time to revisit self-storage real estate investment trusts (REITs), particularly Abacus Property Group, which, he says, looks the more interesting REIT at current valuations.
The long Easter weekend and Anzac public holiday made their impact felt last week, with FNArena registering five downgrades for ASX-listed entities, and not one single upgrade. The good news though is that most downgrades still transfer to Neutral/Hold. You can read about these downgrades in Buy, Sell, Hold: What the Brokers Say.
And finally, in our Hot Stocks today, CMC Markets’ Chief Market Strategist, Michael McCarthy explains why he likes Smartgroup (SIQ) and doesn’t like Fortescue (FMG).
The Switzer Investor Strategy Day is heading to Melbourne and Brisbane next week and tickets are almost sold out. To claim your complimentary tickets as a valued subscriber, click on the event you would like to attend below:
