Dear %%first_name%%,

Midway through the first month of the year is a good time to stop and see if the “January Effect” is in play. That’s the theory that says if January is a good month on markets, so will the rest of the year be.

So far I’m not so impressed, but that doesn’t mean I’m a disheartened investor. To the contrary, I’m actually quite optimistic that a lower Aussie dollar will be good for investors honing their stock picking skills.

We have a raft of helpful analysis in the Switzer Super Report to help you pick those stocks today. First up, Paul Rickard reviews the Switzer Super Report growth-biased portfolio. We have some new additions, and have dumped Santos.

Also today, James Dunn closely examines five small-cap stocks – including Infomedia and Reckon – that you’re going to want on your watchlist in 2014. In Buy, Sell, Hold – what the brokers say Rudi Filapek-Vandyck discovers a banking sector review by Citi results in downgrades for three of the Big Four – ANZ, CBA and Westpac. Finally investment writer Barrie Dunstan takes a look at what the US gurus – Jeremy Grantham, Bill Gross and Ray Dalio – are all saying.

Sincerely,

Peter Switzer

My son Marty Switzer has been holding the fort on my Switzer TV show over the past two weeks and last week he spoke to Simon Bond, shares expert at Morgans, for his unique view on the markets. Watch the interview here.
