Dear %%first_name%%,

When bad news hits, most stocks sink. But the smarties look to play defence before defence is needed and go fishing for stocks that fall into this category. In the Report today, I ask the question: Should you buy these 8 stocks that defied China’s currency fall?

Paul Rickard says that while JB Hi-Fi (which reported today) meets the criteria of a great stock for an investor’s portfolio, there are concerns about sector headwinds not abating and whether the company’s growth profile might be maturing. So is JB Hi-Fi a stock worth adding to your portfolio when the market (or the shorters) are keen to sell? Would you buy now or  have it on your watchlist, waiting to buy? Read Paul’s expert view.

Here we go again – another deadline for Brexit. New British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has vowed to take the United Kingdom out of the EU by 31 October, without a “deal” if necessary. James Dunn is in London today and discusses 6 stocks that he says have had a fair bit of Brexit uncertainty priced into their valuation – but which could rebound if and when Brexit happens.

Stockbroking analysts have started zooming in on undervalued laggards resulting in (finally!) more upgrades being issued than downgrades for individual ASX-listed stocks. For the week up until Friday 9 August 2019, FNArena counted 9 recommendation upgrades versus 5 downgrades.

And in our “HOT” stock this week, CMC Market’s Chief Market Strategist, Michael McCarthy, explains why he likes Computershare (CPU) but doesn’t like Mirvac Group (MGR).

Our Switzer Listed Income Conference is now sold out in Sydney and Melbourne, but we still have some tickets available for Brisbane on Wednesday 21st August. If you’ve already got your tickets, don’t forget the conference starts in Sydney this Friday 16th August before heading to Melbourne on Tuesday 20th August.

Tune in at 5pm tonight for the first live episode of Switzer on YouTube.

And my new book ‘Join the Rich Club’ is now available through the Switzer Store website. Copies of the book will also be available for purchase at our conferences.

Sincerely,

Peter Switzer
