Will these “forgiven” stocks justify investor support?

Over the next two weeks we will get the earnings show and tell from a number of companies that have had shockers over the past year or so but recently they have been ‘forgiven’ or at least trusted to perform better than expected. Given the fact that many such as Xero, WiseTech, CSL and others have picked up a get-out-of jail card of late, these companies will need to deliver something positive, or at least not give any new bad news.

Iran is trumping our market

US stocks overall are heading for the third winning week in a row, and you can thank the spectacular earnings reports of most companies that have been on 'show-and-tell' over the past three weeks. Given the prevailing concerns about the future because of Iran's impact on oil prices, inflation and interest rates, the fact that FactSet reports that more than 90% of S&P 500 companies have posted second-quarter results, and earnings growth from the year-earlier period is tracking around 50%.
